The curves of the upper Helford River near Frenchman’s Creek
Driving to Cornwall down the A30 a few weeks ago I passed the well known “Nearly Home Trees” just near the Devon border. Although the composition has been somewhat spoilt by a wind turbine, this iconic scene is still on my bucket list to image.
I thought there might be a layby to stop in and capture the view: but no such luck More planning required!! Later that evening, feeling slightly depressed, I had arrived at the curves of the upper Helford River near Frenchman’s Creek when the combination of light, bird life, tree lines and tide height caught my eye. I parked off-road, walked quickly back, as the light was going fast, and was rewarded by this image.
When one door closes…!
Where do seagulls sleep at night?
On the water to avoid a fright.
Cats and foxes won’t follow them there
in the Far North, not even a bear.
Still, to ensure security they post a sentry
in case a predator tries a stealthy entry.
And gulls sleep lightly with one eye ajar
evaluating all hazards whether near-to or far.
